Sonia M. Kandathil
Artist, mom, lobbyist, public health and education advocate, university professor, food truck aficionado, (addicted) viewer of British TV crime thrillers, dedicated promoter of all Seattle-based alternative bands (go Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse, and Say Hi), tireless campaigner for Seattle Startups (Cozi, Offer Up), shameless lover of Indian food (can you ever really eat enough Chicken Tikka Masala?), dreamer and now, filmmaker/writer.
While all these traits (and more) define me, I am most passionate about working with nonprofit organizations to help improve the world. I have spent over 15 years in the government and non-profit sectors advocating for women, children, and underserved populations. I have been keenly interested in the world of Public Health since I was a Peace Corps volunteer more than 30 years ago. I’ve spent my career working in HIV/AIDS policy as an analyst, lobbyist, and researcher.
I (proudly) hold a BA from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a Master’s and PhD from Oregon State University. In between, I worked as a waiter, film and theater actress and director, master mixologist, Greenpeace canvasser, freelance journalist, and occasional purveyor of roses.
