Our Reason for Being

The film industry continues to struggle with diversity and inclusion, and the traditional film financing and distribution models have let women down for decades. Even when the numbers inarguably prove that female-driven content sells, Hollywood is still reluctant to invest in projects that uplift female voices.

This creates a sense of isolation and wrongness, and sends a message that women need to put on armor and change who they are to fit into the current system. We want to create spaces by women and for women where we all feel comfortable and empowered to show up as ourselves, ask for what we need, and share without fear of scarcity or rejection.

Women in Film

  • A total of 111 directors were hired across the 100 top fictional films of 2022. Of these, 91% were men and 9% were women.

  • The number of women working behind the camera has only increased 8% since 1998. That's 25 years of "progress" toward inclusivity and equality.

  • 94% of women in Hollywood have experienced sexual harassment or assault on male driven sets (ourselves included).

  • The gender wage gap in Hollywood is still 25% with women earning $1.1M less than men with similar experience.

  • And the kicker... In studies conducted between 2012-2018, female-driven films outperformed male driven films at the box office.

  • For example: Greta Gerwig's BARBIE, which had the highest Monday gross of all time for a Warner Brothers Film, and boasted the biggest opening weekend of any studio film in 2023.

So What Are We Doing About It?

We have a continually growing slate of female-driven productions across diverse mediums, and we are also championing a philanthropic program to support women at a crucial point in their early careers when Hollywood financiers are turning their backs.

We aim to intentionally create community-driven spaces and gathering opportunities that remind us that we don’t need to compete or perform. There is room for each and every one of our wild beautiful hearts, and we rejoice in the reminder that a rising tide lifts all ships.
